A Day Out At EGX (The Ordinary Moments)
Welcome back to The Ordinary Moments, which is about capturing the very special moments, or the very ordinary.
This week Shivam went to the NEC in Birmingham with his Daddy. Sukh had got them both tickets to EGX 2018, the UK’s biggest games event. Shivam doesn’t really play a lot of video games because we prefer him to spend his time playing board games or outside in the garden with a football. When he does play games, it’s every now and then – mostly in the school holidays and for no more than an hour a day – on the Nintendo Wii. He will play sporting games and Mario Kart but we prefer him not to play fighting games.
So going to EGX was a treat for him.
They both spent quite a lot of time in the Nintendo section. Shivam played Mario Kart Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch.Shivam enjoyed watching older kids playing the popular game Fortnite. It’s rated 12 so he wasn’t allowed to play it but I’d rather he didn’t anyway. The last thing we want is for him to become addicted to video games.
Nintendo had a fairly big section at the event. Shivam spent some time playing in the Labo section. He enjoyed exploring the various controls including a car, airplane and submarine.
The Marvel Spiderman game on the Playstation 4 intrigued him as he loves his superheroes but he didn’t get a chance to play it because of the long Saturday queues. I don’t know much about video games at all but Shivam tells me it’s the best game out recently.
Shivam had go at playing one of the Sonic racing games in the Sega section. He told me it’s just Mario Kart but the latter is still his favourite.
His favourite part of the day was meeting lots of comic book characters. Lots of people turned up to the event in costume and Shivam spotted popular characters like Deadpool, Batman and The Penguin.
Overall Shivam was Impressed with how big the event was. He was fascinated with the different exhibitions and displays and is looking forward to going along next year.

What a lovely boy!
He looks like he had an amazing day! Some awesome pictures.
I’ve been looking at the Nintendo Switch for my 5-year-old. Would you say it is worth it just yet or should I wait?
I agree with you on Fortnite. I play it but I wouldn’t let my daughter’s play!

Thanks Rebecca. He really loved playing on the switch but we already have the Wii and the PS3. I’m trying to put off buying yet another console. He’d be at it all the time and I prefer him to kick around his football outside x

Aw thanks Nancy x
This sounds like such a great day out and you sound like you have the sort of video games ethos that we have – ok in moderation but the right kinds of games too x

Exactly. I prefer limited time on gadgets. Much prefer them outside in the fresh air x
