Active Kids (Living Arrows)

Active Kids (Living Arrows)

Welcome back to my photo adventure, Living Arrows, which is about celebrating childhood. The project originally took it’s name from a poem by Kahlil Gibran. “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”.

I’ll share photos of both Shalini and Shivam from our week. These will be simple photos that capture a moment of childhood.

This week Shivam started Wing Chun Kung Fu. We have wanted him to learn a martial art for some time. Shivam loves the Karate Kid films (both the originals and the remake). He recently watched the series Cobra Kai, which follows the lives of the original characters, who are now adults with their own families.Active Kids - Shivam At Wing ChunShivam has been somewhat obsessed with the whole martial arts scene and it was a win-win for us when he expressed interest in lessons. Martial Arts is a sport which offers discipline and respect and is perfect for an active eight-year-old who is somewhat boisterous.Active Kids - Shivam At Wing ChunWing Chun is the martial art which Bruce Lee learnt and Shivam is slowly becoming a fan – and so we found a school in our area. He’s been to a few lessons now and is already enjoying it immensely. During the course of his learning, Shivam will gain confidence, learn self defence and be fitter as a result.Active Kids - Shivam At Wing ChunShalini auditioned for the school Dance Company this week. As she attends a High School specialising in Performing Arts, we’ve always encouraged her to get involved in Dance and Drama. The auditions went really well because she was one of the handful of students selected.Active Kids - Shalini DancesShe worked hard towards her audition so getting that precious offer letter made her very happy. She will attend rehearsals once a week but as soon as there’s a school play or performance, her calendar will be quite full.Active Kids - Shalini DancesShe’s very excited though and we’ve encouraged her since Year 7 to get involved in lots of extra-curricular activities.Active Kids - Shalini Dances

You have such active children and it’s so lovely that they have such enthusiasm for extra-curricular activities like this x

Thanks Donna. They do enjoy their clubs/activities. Keeps me busy though!

Ah, martial arts. Yes, both my kids did karate for a while. It did wonders for confidence and discipline and tired them out massively. Hope Shivam does well. Hope Shalini enjoys the extra dance lessons too. Good to see kids active in these ways.

Thank you so much. I’ve noticed quite a difference in him already. I shall pass on your lovely wishes to Shalini too.
