This is the first time I’m doing a beauty favourites post and I’m super excited about it. I’ve followed beauty bloggers/vloggers for years and kept an eye on the products they’re using and loving.
I talk about cosmetics and skincare a lot on Instagram but wanted to go into more detail about the products I use and love. I’m always trying new things for my face, skin and hair so I’m looking forward to sharing those with you each month.
So here are my Monthly Beauty Favourites – September 2020…
BECCA Backlight Priming Filter
OK I’m starting with this priming filter because this is by far my most-loved product of late. I had seen beauty bloggers raving about this for ages and added it to my wishlist. When I could justify another addition to my ever-growing makeup collection, this was the first item I added to my basket.
So you can use this a couple of ways. You can use a couple of pumps and pat over your face under foundation, or mix it in with your foundation. I prefer to mix it in if I’m using a full coverage foundation.
Usually I use a bit of Farsali’s Rose Gold Elixir, Mac’s Strobe Cream or some liquid highlighter drops. All of them do the trick but there’s just something a little extra about this.I hate my makeup looking flat and this gives a luminous finish. I’m a fan of contouring, bronzing and highlighting to add definition into my face following foundation but the canvas has to be right first. I’ve loved the effect of this product during the warmer weather and I know I’ll need it even more during the cold winter months.
A little goes a long way (I use 1-2 pumps), so it’s definitely value for money.
I’d never used BECCA products before but they’ve won me over with this, so I’m eager to try other products from this brand.
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer
My final fave this month is the Kiehl’s facial moisturiser. I’d umm’d and aah’d for ages about whether to buy the cream or the moisturiser. I thought a cream might be heavier after using my other skincare products in the morning, so I opted for this.
They both offer SPF 30 for the same price. I’ll write a post covering my skincare soon but I can not understate how important SPF is in your skincare regime come rain or shine – whether you wear makeup or not.I find this just melts into my skin and just feels so light. I’ve recommended it to friends before and they’ve also not been disappointed. It’s a bit heavy on the pocket, but when it comes to my skin, I don’t compromise. As with the primer, a little goes a long way. I’m only on my second bottle and have been using it for months.
It has all those important ingredients you need for your skin; squalane, Vitamins A and Vitamin E.
JUNO & Co. Microfiber Velvet Sponge
I discovered this nifty little product on holiday to California last year. My niece had been using it for a while and when I saw how little product was left on the sponge after she’d applied her foundation, I was pleasantly surprised.
It’s basically a velvet makeup sponge. When the Beauty Blender hit the market, I was one of its biggest fans. I still am because it was definitely a gamechanger for makeup application. But the downside was washing it after every use and squeezing out so much product! It was annoying because I hate waste. No one wants to see their high-end base products disappear down the sink hole!
I was gutted I didn’t pick this up when I was in America because I couldn’t stop thinking about it (sad, I know!) It was delivery only and I didn’t think I’d have enough time for it to arrive before I flew home.So I ordered it online when I returned. But now you’re in luck! They’re finally available here in the UK and I’m super excited about that. They’re so much cheaper than the Beauty Blender and at the moment you can pick one up for just £4.25 on Beauty Bay.
Believe me when I say, they last ages! I bought my two sponges in May 2019 and I’ve only just seen a tear in the lavender one and I’ve used it nearly every day. As you can see, the lemon one is practically new.
It’s easy to wash too. I just drop it into a bowl of washing up liquid diluted with a bit of water and zap it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Huda Beauty Nude Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette (Medium)
As a makeup fan, I have a fair few items by Huda in my collection. But for me, her best products have to be the eyeshadow palettes. I own a few of them and she keeps me coming back for more whenever she releases a new line.
The obsessions palettes are to die for. They’re highly pigmented, with the perfect mix of mattes, shimmers and metallics and are makeup-bag friendly – mirror and all. This Medium Nude palette has been my favourite this month. As we were blessed with warm weather for most of September, the rose gold, dusty pink and terracotta shades were perfect. And then the chestnuts and deep browns made a nice transition from my summer eye looks to autumn.
They last ages too, as you only need to apply a minimal amount. I have yet to hit pan on any of the shades in mine, so for the price, it’s a win-win.
OGX Hydrate & Defrizz + Kukui Oil Shampoo
I’ve recently had hair extensions fitted. If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen me talk lots about this. I’ll have them in for three months so have been following my stylist’s advice closely.
Finally, my hair has the length and volume I’ve craved for so long but it also takes a lot of maintenance. I was advised to use a sulphate-free shampoo but because my hair is naturally curly, I also needed something which would fight the frizz.I came across this OGX one online. I’ve used a few of their shampoos before but had never come across this one. Kukui oil contains Vitamin A, C, E and F, so it was a no-brainer. I haven’t been disappointed. It leaves my hair soft, shiny and almost tangle-free (which is hard to imagine with nano tip extensions!) I bought the conditioner too.
So that’s my monthly beauty favourites – September 2020. It’s the first one I’ve done, so I welcome feedback. If you have any questions about the products I’ve mentioned, drop me a comment below. What are your beauty faves at the moment?
