My First Fashion Review
I can’t believe I’m posting my first fashion review. Since I started blogging at the beginning of the year, I’ve been overwhelmed with the number of brands reaching out to me. I knew that was part and parcel of being a blogger but that’s not why I started this journey.
I pursue some partnerships but refuse others because they’re not true to who I am or what my brand represents. I don’t want to do stuff because I’m afraid big brands will stop contacting me. I want to be a honest writer and only share things that I believe in.
I love clothes and I love dressing up. But for years I put myself third – behind both of my children – and bought things for them before spending money on myself Even if they had all they needed, money I had set aside for myself would be spent on them. Read more about that here.
But recently I’ve spent a lot of money on my clothes. The heatwave has helped as it’s made me want to be more experimental and try clothing brands I’ve not shopped with before. You’ll see all of that on my Instagram.
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by online fashion brand Femme Luxe. I must be honest and say a) I hadn’t ever heard of them before and b) I didn’t think they would have anything in their range that would serve me.
Let’s not forget I’m a 40-year-old woman and there are some items I simply can not pull off! The only reason I wear some of the things I do is because I know I look younger than I am.
But I threw caution to the wind and decided to give it a go. I chose five items from a set range I was offered and they arrived within a couple of days. Being transparent on this blog means everything to me so I’d like to be clear from the onset. This is not a paid promotion but I do get to keep the items I chose.
So here goes. Enjoy my first fashion review!
The first item is a black slogan crop top with short sleeves and a crew neck.
Shalini stole it and claimed it as her own right after these photos were taken! I ordered a size 8-10 but when I unpacked it, it looked too small to fit me. It was perfect though and really comfortable.
I wore it with jeans here but it could easily be worn with joggers, shorts or even a leather skirt. I chose it because I knew it would be versatile. Good decision!
The second item I chose was this rose tracksuit with a hood. It has a rainbow stripe detail on both the sleeves and the legs. You could dress this up with heels or go for the casual vibe with sliders or trainers. I had ordered a size 10 but I could have actually gone for an 8 as it came up a bit loose.
I prefer knit loungewear normally and this felt a little rough to the touch, so I wasn’t sure it would be my cup of tea. But I got quite comfortable in it – and for me, comfort comes first. I could have chosen the black short-sleeve version but I wanted to go for a colour I normally wouldn’t think of purchasing for myself.
I chose these black with white contrast split leg trousers as my third item. I had ordered a size 10 but they came up fairly tight and I struggled with the zip a little. I managed to get into them though and they looked so much better on than when I first unpacked them.
I matched them up with a white top and they’re so versatile I guess you could wear any colour top, long sleeve or short. I tied the whole outfit together with my white lace heels.
They look fairly smart too although I wouldn’t wear them to work with that amount of leg showing. They’re great for an evening out though and I’m really into wide leg trousers at the moment. I may just take them on holiday with me.
The fourth item I ordered was a floral maxi split leg two-piece set. It’s a high neck sleeveless crop top with maxi skirt with a thigh-high split. It’s bold in colour and I love the orange floral detail.
I ordered a size 10 and it fit me perfectly. I wouldn’t wear this here though but think it’ll be perfect for my holiday. I dressed up the outfit with my Lucy Choi heels but on holiday I will probably wear it with sliders for a more comfortable beach look. Mac’s Lady Danger is one of my favourite lipsticks ever and teaming it with this outfit really make the orange print pop.
The final item I chose from the collection offered was a cream crochet tasseled vest top. I ordered a size 8 and it came up perfect. The model wears this over swimwear but I wore it with ripped jeans. It could just as easily be worn with denim shorts.
It’s a comfortable top, I like the tassel detailing and cream is perfect for any season. I may even take it on holiday and wear it over a bikini like the model on the site. I wish it came in other colours because I would snap them up.
Overall I was pleased with the items I chose and their quality. They are perfect items for a season and inexpensive enough to feel you’ve got your money’s worth after a few wears.
