Every time we head to the States, California is one of our go-to spots. We’ve made a bit of a tradition out of it and it never disappoints. There are some places we always hit up when we’re there – like Universal Studios Hollywood. We’re huge theme park fans, so Universal is always high on the list. You can check out our vlogs from Universal Studios Orlando and Universal’s Islands of Adventure too if you’re into that kind of thing.
But I’m going to tell you about a slightly different adventure we went on during our last trip – one involving food. Because let’s face it, no trip is complete without trying out the local food scene, and in LA, that means Pink’s Hotdogs. ToggleDiscovering Pink’s Hotdogs
As usual, I did my research before we jetted off (I’m the kind of person who loves to plan). That’s when I stumbled across Pink’s Hotdogs, a legendary roadside stand in LA that’s been serving up its famous hotdogs for over 79 years. Yes, you heard me right – 79 years of hotdog goodness! How could I resist?
Apparently, people queue up daily just to get a bite of these iconic hotdogs and I later found out that Pink’s has expanded into a chain, with locations all over the U.S. But honestly, when it comes to something this iconic, you’ve got to go to the original, right? So, naturally, we made our way to the flagship spot in LA.
What made it even more exciting was that Pink’s is really close to some of the biggest Hollywood studios, like Paramount, Universal, and Disney. So, while you’re munching away, you’re in the same neighbourhood as some of the biggest names in entertainment. And to top it off, they’ve got a celebrity wall of fame inside, packed with over 200 photos of famous faces who’ve also feasted at Pink’s. Now, you know it’s going to be good when celebs are regulars!
A Tourist Hotspot with Hollywood Ties
Pink’s isn’t just a local spot; it’s become a tourist attraction in its own right. The restaurant has been featured in movies, TV shows, and on the Food and Travel Channels, and it even gets a mention in travel books. So, I knew we weren’t the only ones making the pilgrimage to this roadside legend.
As we pulled up to Pink’s, there it was – the famous sign, the queues and the promise of a seriously good hotdog. After reading so much about it, I had high expectations, and let me tell you, Pink’s didn’t disappoint.
Our Feast at Pink’s Hotdogs
When you walk into Pink’s, the first thing that hits you (apart from the mouth-watering smell) is the menu. It’s packed with options – classic hotdogs, chilli dogs, specialty dogs and sides. You could easily spend a while trying to decide what to order because there are just so many tasty choices.
After much deliberation, we finally settled on our hotdogs and prepared ourselves for the feast. They arrived piled high with toppings, and they were huge. These aren’t your average hotdogs—they’re next-level! And trust me, every bite was pure heaven.
I went for a classic chilli dog, and it was everything you could want – juicy, flavourful and with just the right amount of spice from the chilli. Sukh tried one of their more creative specialty dogs, and he was equally impressed. The portions were massive, so go with an empty stomach!
Why Pink’s is a Must-Visit in LA
After our meal, it was easy to see why Pink’s is so popular. First of all, the history of the place makes it special. It’s been around since 1939, and that in itself is impressive. There’s something so cool about eating at a place that’s been serving hotdogs for nearly eight decades.
But beyond the history, it’s the flavour that makes it stand out. Even though we only had time to visit once during our trip, we’ve already added it to our must-do list for the next time we’re in California.
Plus, Pink’s has this authentic, old-school vibe that you just can’t fake. From the retro decor to the celebrity photos on the wall, you really feel like you’re stepping into a piece of LA history.
Planning a Visit to Pink’s?
If you’re planning a trip to LA, Pink’s should be on your radar. Whether you’re a hotdog lover or just want to try something uniquely LA, this is one spot that delivers on both taste and experience. It’s located in the heart of LA and makes for the perfect pit stop after a day of sightseeing.
If you’re worried about the queues (because yes, they do get long), don’t be. The service is quick, and the hotdogs are definitely worth the wait.
Would We Go Back?
Absolutely! Pink’s is one of those places that’s just fun. It’s not pretentious, it’s not trying too hard—it’s just good food in a relaxed setting. And even though we only went once this trip, we’ll definitely be heading back on our next California adventure. I mean, how could we not?
It’s not every day you get to eat somewhere that’s been going strong for nearly 80 years, and it’s even rarer to find a place that’s so connected to Hollywood history. So if you’re ever in LA, make sure to stop by Pink’s. You won’t regret it.
