Seaworld Orlando: How To Have The Best Day

In August 2017, we packed our bags, grabbed the kids and set off on one of our biggest summer holidays – Orlando, Florida. It’s the kind of trip you dream about: sun, fun and a whole lot of rollercoasters. This post is all about one of the highlights of our holiday – Seaworld Orlando. If you’ve ever wondered whether Seaworld is worth adding to your Orlando itinerary or if you’re planning a visit, read on for the best tips, the top rides and a sneak peek at what it’s really like. And of course, you can watch our full vlog of the day below – from thrills to screams.

Kicking Off with a Bang: Mako – Tallest and Fastest in Florida

If you’re looking for heart-pounding action, Seaworld does not disappoint. And the first ride we tackled? Mako – Florida’s tallest and fastest rollercoaster. Now, I’ve been on a few rollercoasters in my time, but Mako? It’s something else. The second that first drop hits, you’re either screaming in terror or laughing in sheer joy. Or in my case, both.

Picture this: a 200-foot drop, speeds reaching up to 73 mph, and so much airtime, you’re practically flying. But, the real star of the Mako experience? Sukh. Let me tell you, this man has vertigo, and what does he decide to do? Not just ride Mako, but ride it twice. I’ve never seen anyone so terrified and so determined. Honestly, watching him tackle that coaster is worth the price of admission alone. If you’re on the fence about Mako and think it might be too intense – let’s just say if Sukh can do it with vertigo, so can you. (Although don’t miss his face in our vlog – priceless.)

Kraken Unleashed: Virtual Reality Meets Rollercoaster

Next up, we hit Kraken Unleashed. Now, Kraken has been a Seaworld favourite for years, but they’ve taken it to the next level with virtual reality (VR). Yep, you strap on a headset, and suddenly you’re not just on a rollercoaster; you’re part of this wild digital adventure.

The ride itself is fast and twisty, with enough loops to leave your head spinning, but add in the VR and you’re in a whole new world – literally. You’re battling sea monsters, diving into underwater cities, all while trying not to lose your head (or your lunch). Pro tip: if you’re someone who gets motion sickness easily, maybe skip the VR headset – Kraken is thrilling enough on its own. But if you’re up for the full experience, you’ll be in for a treat. Sukh opted out of this one (wise move), so it was just me and the kids, and let’s just say I screamed my way through.

Journey to Atlantis: Where Rollercoaster Meets Splash Ride

After all that adrenaline, we decided to switch it up with something a bit more… well, wet. Journey to Atlantis is a ride that’s part rollercoaster, part water ride, and completely bonkers in the best way possible. It starts off pretty tame – a gentle boat ride through ancient ruins – but then things take a turn, and suddenly you’re plummeting down into the water at breakneck speed.

Fair warning: you will get soaked. It’s one of those rides where, halfway through, you think “Oh, this isn’t so bad,” and then BAM – wave after wave of water. If you’re visiting Seaworld in the summer months, though, this is the perfect way to cool off after all those coasters. Just maybe bring a change of clothes if you’re not keen on walking around drenched for the rest of the day.

Tips for Making the Most of Seaworld Orlando

Now, if you’re planning your trip to Seaworld, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. Here are my top tips:

Get there early

I cannot stress this enough. The park opens at 9 am, and if you want to hit the big rides (like Mako and Kraken) without standing in endless queues, be there when the gates open. Trust me, that early morning rush is worth it when you can knock out two or three major attractions before the crowds descend.

Plan your route

Seaworld is big, and if you don’t have a plan, you’ll spend half your day wandering around trying to decide what to do next. Start with the rollercoasters when the queues are shorter, then head to the animal exhibits and shows later in the day when you’re ready for a bit of a break.

Wear comfortable shoes

It sounds obvious, but you’ll be walking a lot. Between rides, shows, and food stops, your feet will thank you for some comfy trainers.

Pack light, but bring essentials

You don’t want to be lugging around a heavy bag all day, but sunscreen, a hat, and a refillable water bottle are musts. Orlando is hot, and there’s not a lot of shade in the park.

Book in advance

If you’re planning on doing any of the extra experiences, like feeding the dolphins or meeting penguins, book in advance. These things sell out quickly, and it’s always better to be prepared.

Don’t skip the shows

Sure, the rollercoasters are incredible, but Seaworld’s shows are top-notch. Whether it’s the dolphins, orcas, or sea lions, there’s always something amazing to watch. We caught the Dolphin Days show, and it was a highlight of the day – the kids loved it, and I have to admit, I was pretty impressed too.

A Day of Thrills, Screams, and a Bit of Water

By the end of the day, we were exhausted but buzzing. Seaworld Orlando is a park that has it all: the heart-pounding rollercoasters, the immersive VR experiences, and of course, the classic water rides that leave you drenched but laughing. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or someone who prefers the more relaxed pace of the shows and exhibits, Seaworld has something for everyone.

And don’t forget to check out the vlog of our day – you won’t want to miss Sukh’s terrified face on Mako, my screaming on Kraken, or the kids’ pure joy on Journey to Atlantis. It was one for the books, and I’d go back in a heartbeat.

So, is Seaworld Orlando worth it? Absolutely. Just remember: get there early, bring your courage (especially for Mako), and be prepared for an epic day of fun.
