Day 1
Start your day in Wheaton
Start your trip with breakfast at Moveable Feast + Company in Wheaton — a cosy spot serving up fresh, seasonal food in a relaxed vibe.
I went for the eggs and avo, but honestly, those fluffy pancakes looked just as good. Plus, the coffee was exactly what I needed to kick off the day.Wheaton is a charming downtown in DuPage with old-school American character and red-brick buildings. It has independent boutiques and a strong sense of community.
We loved strolling the streets, soaking up the friendly atmosphere, before heading over to nearby Glen Ellyn — just as cute and peaceful. These small downtowns are perfect for pottering around with a coffee in hand and checking out locally owned shops. If you have more time, Naperville and Lombard have equally lovely downtown areas and are definitely worth a visit.
Top tip: Hire a car to get around easily and stress-free.
Midday shopping at Oakbrook Center
Next, head to Oakbrook Center — an open-air shopping destination that’s truly something special. It’s popular with both locals and visitors from downtown Chicago, and for good reason.
The mall is stylish, with a great mix of high-end brands, department stores and cosy cafés.It’s more than just a shopping spot — it feels like a lively lifestyle hub where you can stroll, shop, and just soak up the vibe in a beautifully designed setting.
We spent a relaxed couple of hours meandering around and enjoying the atmosphere, which was just the right kind of chill.
Lunch at The Table at Crate
Stop for lunch at The Table at Crate — a stylish spot inside Crate & Barrel that’s just as chic as you’d expect. The menu is fresh, seasonal and perfect for sharing. After a big breakfast, we went for a few plates to share, including Waffle Fries with Aioli and Chicken Dumplings with soy garlic chilli crisp — both were full of flavour.
The Lamb Flatbread with house-made lamb sausage and pomegranate molasses was a standout. The cocktails impressed too. We enjoyed the refreshing Strawberry Basil Martini, Sicilian Mai Tai, and a beautifully delicate Lavender Lemonade made with butterfly pea flower tea and sparkling water.

It’s a bit quieter and more upmarket than some of the other spots, making it a lovely place to browse without the crowds.
